Why don’t insurance companies cover or help cover gym memberships?
I would really like to join the fitness center in my area, mainly because they have a pool & I used to swim competitvely, and I would also like to get back into shape. (I work out at home, but this place offers small classes for kickboxing etc, & I would like something new) Also, my daughter takes swim lessons there & we would get a discount on them. Anyway, membership for almost all of the fitness/wellness centers is pretty high. We are on a tight budget in my household too. It got me to thinking about how if insurance companies would help cover the cost of these places, maybe more people would join, and in turn stay healthier, which in turn would help keep insurance costs down. Does anyone else think this is a good idea? Or do you know of insurance companies that do this? I have BlueCross, which is pretty good, but I have never heard of insurance companies helping with this. What do you think?

I can only do so much at home…I have a 6 year old buggin me!

some do, the offer a reimbursement… you just have to ask and the company will send you a form that you have to fill out. I know my insurance company gives $300 back which helps.

“Best Buy” recommendations are based on physical testing, others critiques, and evaluations. Best Buy selections are named by considering various elements, a few are;

Top Choice #2 Schwinn 430 ($599/Free Shipping online)
NordicTrack AudioStrider 990
This extraordinary trainer has an incline for a workout similar to being on a treadmill. This add-on increases the difficulty of your workout and adds variety to your workout on the elliptical. Merged with great perks like iFit personal trainer technology, audio system with subwoofer to connect your music player or iPod and twenty pre-set personal trainer exercises.
Schwinn 430
This option features a concave wheel that lets the machine be more stable and represses the shifting side to side you experience when using a machine that boasts front wheel placement. Featuring a fluid 18″ stride and sixteen levels of resistance, this is a great machine!
S1,000 – $1,500 Price Range, “Best Buy” 2009 Elliptical Units
Best Choice #1 Sole E35 ($1299.99/Free Shipping offer)
Best Choice #2 Smooth CE 3.2 ($1299.99/Free Shipping online)
Sole E35
Most awesome about this elliptical is the warranty that arrives with the purchase. 5 year parts and two year labor is comprehensive and helps makes this machine a “Best Buy” pick and makes it stand out among the competition.
Among the characteristics on this large unit; a front drove wheel, articulating foot pedals, wireless heart rate control, 8 pre-setexercises, and a thirty lb flywheel.
Smooth CE 3.2
The Smooth CE 3.2, is made with heavy gauge steel, that increases the stability. This unit weighs in at a heavy 175 pounds. which is great for consumers that weigh over two hundred pounds. While this is not a 100 lb. machine that users can fold up and place away, fitness professionals searching for a good, trustworthy workout will love this unit.
Similar to the Sole 35, this elliptical as well offers numerous tremendous features including; Electro-Magnetic Drive and Braking System, Heart Rate Control, Pivotal Foot Pedals and rear wheel drive. Worth mentioning is the servicing record which is first-rate for the 3.2. This machine has been for sale for a few years and it appears the company has worked out the kinks. I have found it challenging to comprehend why so many fitness equipment companies alter their machines so often. If you create a success, stay with it.
$1,500 – $2,000 Price Range, “Best Buy” 2009 Elliptical Trainers
Best Choice #1 – Sole E55 ($1499/Including Shipping)
Sole has only manufactured ellipticals for the last few years, but they are a top choice for consumers. With an outstanding reputation, they are what is featured in Hilton’s in room elliptical machines. Sole has also won many “Best Buy” awards.
Deciding to build quality ellipticals using well-made components at good pricing, Sole E55 is a extraordinary machine. Featuring a power incline, a larger stride than normal at twenty inches and a exquisite five year parts and 2-year labor warranty, this elliptical is at the top and even contends with a few machines in advanced price ranges.
$2,000 – $3,000 Price Range, “Best Buy” 2009 Elliptical Trainers
Best Choice #1 – Smooth CE 7.4 ($1999)
The Smooth CE 7.4 is a good pick at $1,999 which is the bottom in this price level. It features a gym grade electro magnetic system, which broadcasts a magnetic charge that changes the resistance.
Also included is a extraordinary lifetime brake system, 5-year brake system and one year labor warranty, and even has other great features like a quality LED, 21″ stride, and Articulating Foot Pedals. This solid machine gives a quiet, smooth and comfy workout.
Worth mentioning in this price level is the Precor 5.17i, which is around $2,400. The power incline adds depth to your workout, but there is not upper body workout with this elliptical.
$3,000+ Price Range, “Best Buy” 2009 Elliptical Trainers
Best Choice #1 – Precor EFX 5.23
This choice is not surprise to fitness professionals and industry experts. This machine is the strongest elliptical unit in the market. Featuring the CrossRamp technology, that provides you to modify the ramp angle to target various lower body muscles. Although, this machine doesn’t offer an upper body workout, although several others in the Precor line do.
Of special mention is the Octane Q47 elliptical machine. Featuring an Adjustable Stride Length using SmartStride technology, which modifies the stride length fitting to your height and the speed, ArmBlaster and double rail design.
Most Advanced, “Best Buy” 2009 Elliptical Trainers
Offered by Smooth Fitness, the Smooth Agile DMT (Dynamic Motion Technology), provides 12 different elliptical motions. You workout and tone muscles in less time.
Also offered is the True TSX, with the Mix 3T Exercises, to center on an assortment body parts to maximize your physical exercise.

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto
$9.00 Amazon Significant Seven, January 2008: Food is the one thing that Americans hate to love and, as it turns out, love to hate. For the first time since 1999, a North American assembly plant receives the Platinum Plant Quality Award for producing vehicles yielding the fewest defects.
J.D. Power has given the Platinum Plant Quality Award for producing vehicles with the fewest defects to Ford’s Wixom Assembly Plant in Michigan, which stopped making cars last May 31. The Detroit-area plant produced the Lincoln Town Car, which averages 35 problems per 100 vehicles. Plant awards are based solely on defect counts.
Other honorees among North and South American plants are the General Motors Oshawa 2 plant in Ontario, Canada — which produces the Buick LaCrosse and Pontiac Grand Prix, for the Silver Plant Quality Award; and American Honda’s East Liberty, Ohio, plant, which produces the Honda Civic Sedan and Honda Element, for the Bronze Plant Quality Award.
In the Asia Pacific region, Toyota’s Kyushu, Japan, plant, which produces the Lexus ES 350, Lexus IS 250/IS 350, Lexus RX 350, Lexus RX 400h and Toyota Highlander/Highlander Hybrid received the Gold Plant Quality Award.
The Silver Plant Quality Award went to another Toyota plant — Toyota’s Fujimatsu, Japan, plant, which produces the Toyota Prius. American Honda’s Sayama, Japan, and Suzuka, Japan, plants tied for the Bronze Plant Quality Award. The Sayama plant produces the Acura RL, Acura TSX, Honda Accord Sedan/Hybrid Sedan and Honda CR-V. The Suzuka plant produces the Honda Civic Sedan/Hybrid Sedan, Fit and S2000.
BMW’s Regensburg, Germany, plant, which produces the BMW 3-Series Coupe and 3-Series Sedan, received the Gold Plant Quality Award for Europe.
The Silver Quality Plant Award meanwhile went to the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen, Germany, plant, which produces the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, CL-Class, CLS-Class, generic norvasc price E-Class Sedan, E-Class Wagon, and S-Class. Audi’s Neckarsulm, Germany, plant, which produces the Audi A6 Avant, A6 Sedan, A8 Sedan, RS 4 Sedan, S6 Sedan and S8 Sedan, received the Bronze Plant Quality Award.
The 2007 Initial Quality Study is based on responses from more than 97,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2007 model-year cars and trucks surveyed after 90 days of ownership. The study is based on a 228-question battery designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate problem determination and drive product improvement.
Aside from getting the Platinum Plant Quality Award for producing vehicles yielding the fewest defects, Ford Motor Company also took five top model segment awards — more than any other automobile corporation this year — in the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Initial Quality Study released Wednesday last week.
In the study, Ford earned model segment awards for the Ford Mustang, Lincoln Mark LT, Lincoln MKZ, Mercury Milan, and Mazda MX-5 Miata. Mazda, maker of top of the line Mazda water pump, is 33.4 percent owned by Ford.
Ford’s Lincoln nameplate, which received two segment awards, improved to rank third in 2007, climbing from the 12th spot in 2006.
The Initial Quality Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership and captures problems experienced by owners in two distinct categories — quality of design and quality of production.

Protein supplements for women’s muscle growth ?
I have been working out for about 6 weeks now, I have gained some definition in my arms and legs but I have not gotten any bigger or more defined, it just seemed to stop even though I have increased the amount of weights I use. I need to know if whey protein is ok for women to take and if it will really work and if it could have any side effects ( weight gain from fat, hormones, and if it can affect kidneys or the heart since I have problems w/ both) I don’t know how much to use or how long to use it. I want to be a little more muscular than most women, but not huge, more along the lines of figure fitness model than bodybuilder.
Well, for starters, whey protein is just the same protein hoodia best buys you get in meat/beans/milk/etc. It doesn’t have any ‘effects’ per say (not counting the odd allergy), it’s just food. Doesn’t affect hormones and such in the slightest. The important thing to realize is it doesn’t just make your muscles get bigger, all it can do is make up for a lack of protein in you regular diet.
For a recreational lifter or athlete, a good rule of thumb is around .6-.8g of protein per pound lean body weight per day, from whatever source. The often quoted 1g/day is a very generous amount that tends to be overkill for most people, but won’t cause you problems. The best way to use whey powder is probably in a quick shake (1-2 scoops, ~20-40g) before or after a workout, mixed with some source of carbs (ie: juice, fruit). The carbs give you energy and help the uptake of the protein, and taking it around exercise also increases uptake.
Health wise (this goes for all protein), no studies I’ve ever seen have linked 1.5g protein/1lbs/day or less to any medical problems, *except* in some individuals with existing kidney problems. The issue is that the byproducts of protein are somewhat difficult for your kidneys to excrete. Healthy kidneys don’t have a significant problem. Assuming your doctor doesn’t have you on a specific diet for any kidney problems, you should be fine. Never hurts to check with an MD first though.
