How do I increase my running fitness?
My fitness isn’t moving upwards much?
I’ve noticed that over a period of time that my fitness has increased a lot but now it seems to stay the same. What can I do to improve it?
I’m doing 1.5 mile runs in 9 – 10 minutes of time and really I’ve been able to do that for some while now. It’s still not any easier than when I first attempted it, so how do I make this run easier?
I’ve been told that the only way to make this run easier for myself is to introduce more of a long distant running so that my body builds up stamina therefore I should be able to do this fairly quick 1.5 mile run in under 9 minutes.
It doesn’t sound hard, but it really is! I want to make this run easier, how do I train for it?
Does it sound like I can complete level 11 on the bleep test? If not then what score you reckon.. from what you now know about me lol
Are you trying to add distance of speed to your running?
For distance you can add a slower longer run perhaps once a week – maybe 20 minutes running. Slowly over time you will run further (if you are going by time) or faster over a 3 mile distance (if you are going by distance). This will add stamina and improve your fitness. In fact I would always suggest people go out for at least 30 minutes exercise because otherwise you will spend more time changing to go out, then showering and changing afterwards than you do actually exercising!!
So try adding longer runs at a bit of a slower pace then increase the speed of them, and keep your regular runs at the same speed.
If you want to increase speed then you have to do the opposite, keep your normal runs at the same speed but add some speed training. Do perhaps a half hour session of sprints – run perhaps 200m fast, then rest and recover and repeat. This gets your legs used to running fast. Do perhaps 10 minutes of that, then rest, recover and do 1000m as Fast as you can – again adding speed.
If you don’t have a track, try Fartlec type training using lamp posts. Jog to warm up then run down a street with lamp posts – between alternate posts sprint to one then jog to the next to recover, then sprint between the next 2 etc.
You can of course combine both these suggestions, go out once a week to do speed training, once to do stamina and the rest to do normal run and have a day resting too
Other things you can do might include making sure you have enough to drink and sleep well – both have a big effect on running performance.

I need some fitness tips…?
Ok, so i was 140 lbs in feb and started a gym membership. I go 2-3 times a week, sometimes less because I am a waitress at the Olive Garden and work a lot of doubles and cant always get there (plus i walk around for 10 hours-thats excercise) and now I fluxuate between 127-130 lbs. When I go, I do the bike for 15-20 min, the eliptical for 15 min and tredmill for 15-20. Thats worked for me, but I want to focus on my stomach for the summer.
Any tips for home abs? How many crunches should I do a day? I have a very busy life and can not always get to the gym. I feel guilty, so Im thinking of some things I can do at home? I know I do not spend very much time at the gym, but so far it has been working. I want to continue to loose weight, I do not care about the number I care about what my body looks like. I could stand to loose another 10-15 lbs.
Got to say im impressed sounds like you really are working very hard and doing as much as you can. ill post my tips on how to lose weight just for you to have. But also i can understand how sometimes you simply have no time, when i was boxing i was in the same shoes id work go to and do some boxing run errands so many different things if you want to lose weight while your at work then this will work for you, i used this when i wanted to cut my fat percentage there called Acai Berry. now they help you because they contribute to burning fat even when your sitting. So this way you will be able to shred a lot of fat on the days your too busy and not busy!

Okay the best way to lose weight is to concentrate on 2 main things, this is your diet and your workout.
—Diet—-
You need to get both of them right, now your diet should work like this… you should be eating a meal every 2-3 hours but not a junk food snack/meal. When i say meal i mean something which is healthy ie you might have some pasta with tuna, or a quick banana as a snack. The foods you eat should be COMPLEX carbs ie pasta, brown bread etc etc. You also want to try and get as much fruit + ved in a day. Make sure you have a good amount of protein throughout your meals.
Now you also need to work out your Basal Metabolic Rate, this simply tells you how many calories you burn a day, you need to find out how much your actually eating now its most likely to be in excess if it is you want to TRY and cut down 500 calories and stick to your new total amount. This shouldnt be hard because you will be eating Complex carbs which are just as filling but have a lower calorie count but are better for you than empty calories which are found in simple carbs.
—Workout—
Okay now for your workout what you want to be doing is concentrating on many different types of cardio exercises. These are your jogging,swimming basically anything that makes you sweat and makes your heart pound. If you can join a gym as they have a lot of cardio machines there. Now once you get in to the hang of say jogging, what i mean by this is say you jog 20 mins everyday eventually you will come to a point where your not losing anymore weight this is like hitting a brick wall, this means you need to up the game, start jogging that extra five minutes a day, start taking that one less suagr in your cup of tea.
I can guarantee you that you will lose weight i have had to both GAIN and LOSE weight as i was an ex boxer I assure you that this will work, but the most important tip is motivation from YOU!

I like to swim for exercise everyday, but can i safely swim with a tampon during my period?
I swim everyday for fitness, aqua aerobics. Except, that time of the month. I use tampons. I read that with playtex sport, you can still swim, but i haven’t wanted to experiment in the community pool or at the gym. I was thinking to put a new one in, shower, swim for 30 minutes, and change it after. My main concern is that if I take a bath, without a tampon, my period definately stops for a day and then resumes, delaying it for longer than 5 days. I don’t want pool water to get absorbed by the tampon. I know some people think water can’t get up in there, but it does, just like air can. Well I was hoping some other sporty women will have experience in this. For now I go for walks during that week.
I swam for 13 years and used tampons all the time. Never once had a problem with them. I don’t think they got waterlogged either. It is absolutley safe to use one and go swimming. I think they shortened my periods because they absorb the blood instead of it having to find its way out!!!
You don’t have to use Playtex Sport, any tampon will work.
