On home fitness equipment, does the “Calories Burned” counter show exaggerated numbers for marketing purposes?
A friend told me that the “Calories Burned” indicators show inflated numbers, with no basis in reality, because the manufacturer wants the consumer to think that particular machine is helping them burn lots of calories. Is this true, or a conspiracy theory?
When I 10 mg nolvadex took physics in college one of the problems was to calculate how many calories Bob burned while on a stationary bike utilizing a magnetic flywheel for resistance. This is a very straightforward calculation if you know the strength of the magnet and the speed (RPM’s) at which the disk is turning. The values I calculated were ballpark accurate with what the readouts tell me when I use a machine. Treadmills and elliptical machines are also simple. Basically you can calculate how much work is being done to move a given weight a certain distance. These numbers are very simple to calculate using basic laws of physics. I think, if anything, they’d usually be a little LOWER than the true value, as friction and equipment wear and tear will result in more energy being required to overcome uncalculated resistance. The calories burned indicator might cut some corners on how it calculates the number, but for the most part they’re pretty accurate.

My sister is makes everything in life a competition with me. How do I stop this?
Love my sister to death, but no matter what I do, she has to out-do it. This has only started in the recent few years…we are both in our twenties (she is the younger one) so I don’t see her necessarily growing up and out of this. For example, I recently decided to improve my fitness. Even though she was already in good shape, she jumped up to outdo me. She splurged on fitness equipment that I can’t afford, lost about 15 pounds and waggs that in my face every time I see her. Another example, If I bought a car, she would have to get a better one than me. If I got a hair cut, she would have to go out and get a more fantastic one than me. The worst part of all this is that she likes to throw it in my face every time she does something or buys something better than me. It stresses me out and I really wish she would just let us enjoy our natural differences and equalities without turning everything into a competition. How can I end this cycle?
Be yourself and know she has the problem. She wants to be better than let her. Praise her for being this or that, etc. She does sound jealous and likely wants to emulate detrol la order you in her fashion and making herself better as she does. The best thing you could do is either ignore it and try to move on or to accentuate the natural quatlities and skills that you have that she’s no good in. She’ll get disgruntled and her true feelings will emerge.
